Seattle Mariners Approaching Dubious Baseball History Heading into Wednesday's Game
The Seattle Mariners' hitters need to make more contact. It's really that simple.
After an offseason of making moves to increase their ability to put the ball in play, the M's are striking out historic rates in the early going of the season. What's more, four of their six games have been played against the Boston Red Sox - a team expected to have one of the worst staffs in the American League.
As the 3-3 M's get ready to take on the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday afternoon, they are looking to avoid some dubious baseball history.
Per Luke Arkins, M's Insider, on social media:
#Mariners hitters are one game shy of the MLB record for most consecutive games with 9+ SO’s to begin a season.

In a 5-2 loss to the Guardians on Tuesday, M's hitters struck out 12 times, with four starters registering multi-K games. Mitch Haniger was the only player in the lineup who didn't fan on the night.
Only one Mariners regular (Ty France) is hitting above .300 in the early going and five are hitting .220 or less.
The M's will take on the Guardians at 4:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Logan Allen (1-0, 5.40 ERA) pitches for Cleveland with George Kirby (1-0, 0.00 ERA) toeing the rubber for Seattle.
Given that Allen is a left-hander, the M's are likely to feature a lineup including Dylan Moore and Luis Urias.
