Seattle Mariners Righty George Kirby Continues to Lead the League in This Impressive Category
The Seattle Mariners stayed hot on Saturday night, beating the Los Angeles Angels by a score of 3-2.
The M's have now won eight of their last 10 games, have moved to a season-high seven games over .500 (59-52) and are just 2.5 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League wild card chase.
The M's win was keyed by a Julio Rodriguez two-run double and by another great pitching performance from All-Star George Kirby.
The supreme control artist went seven innings in the win and ran his record to 10-8 on the year. He surrendered just one run on three hits, walking none and striking out five. He's got a 3.32 ERA on the year.
He also continues to lead the baseball world in this impressive category, per @MarinersPR:
Most quality starts with no walks this season:
9 -- George Kirby-SEA
6 -- Zac Gallen-ARI
6 -- Zach Eflin-TB
6 -- Anthony DeSclafani-SF
6 -- Bailey Ober-MIN
Kirby has some of the best control in all of baseball. In 135.2 innings this year, he's struck out 124 batters and has walked just 14.
His ability to pound the strike zone allows him to go deeper into games, which is huge for a Mariners team that is thin on its pitching staff thanks to injuries to both Robbie Ray and Marco Gonzales.
The Mariners have taken the first three games of the series from the Angels and will go for a sweep on Sunday afternoon.
First pitch is set for 4:07 p.m. ET as Bryce Miller (SEA) pitches against Chase Silseth (LAA).
