Ahead of the holidays, Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez is taking home a nice bonus of nearly $2 million.

Per the Associated Press:

Seattle center fielder Julio Rodríguez will receive the largest amount in the $50 million pool for pre-arbitration players, earning $1,865,349 to bring his two-year total to $3,416,199.

Arizona outfielder Corbin Carroll is second at $1,812,337, followed by Baltimore catcher Adley Rutschman at $1,798,439, Atlanta right-hander Spencer Strider at $1,692,833 and Chicago Cubs left-hander Justin Steele at $1,673,331, according to figures compiled by Major League Baseball and the players’ association.

When the last collective bargaining agreement was ratified before the 2022 season, the owners and players association agreed to have a $50 million pool of money for these younger players as a way to help pay some of the game's brightest young players.

While the money is undoubtedly nice for Rodriguez, he doesn't necessarily need it: He already has a massive contract that could keep him in Seattle for his entire career. He signed a complicated long-term deal that is guaranteed at least seven years during the 2022 season.

Rodriguez will make $10 million in 2024.

One of the best young players in the game, Rodriguez is already a two-time All-Star, a two-time Silver Slugger and a Rookie of the Year winner.

He hit .275 this past season with 32 homers and 103 RBI. He also stole 37 bases and posted a .333 on-base percentage.

Lifetime, he's a .279 hitter who helped the Mariners make the playoffs in the 2022 season.
