Son of Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star shortstop Jack Wilson, Jacob Wilson, is a projected first round draft pick in the 2023 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

Jack Wilson played eight and a half Major League seasons for the Pirates from 2001 to 2009. In 2004, he batted .308 with 11 home runs and a National League-leading 12 triples. That same season, he earned a trip to the MLB All-Star Game, and was named an NL Silver Slugger at the shortstop position.

Like his father, Jacob Wilson plays shortstop. He attends Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona. Jacob is about to begin his junior year. Through 106 career games, Jacob has a career .339 Batting Average, .400 On Base Percentage, 16 home runs and 94 RBI. Last season, he batted .358.

MLB Pipeline has him going to the Arizona Diamondbacks at the 12th overall pick. MLB Pipeline has him pegged as a 'Top-10 caliber bat.'

Jacob could be the latest son of a big leaguer to be drafted in the first round, after Matt Holliday's son Jackson Holliday, Andruw Jones' son Druw Jones, Lou Collier's son Cam Collier and Al Leiter's son Jack Leiter were selected in round one of the 2021 and 2022 MLB Drafts.

Jacob is a native of Thousand Oaks, California, where he attended Thousand Oaks High School, the same high school his father attended.

Jack Wilson joined GCU's coaching staff last summer as an assistant coach. He and Jacob are now reunited, after Jack coached Jacob at Thousand Oaks High School. He was the head coach at Thousand Oaks from 2017 to 2021, where he went 98-30-1.
