St. Louis Cardinals Broadcaster Chip Caray Goes Viral with His Call After Embarrassing Loss to Marlins
The St. Louis Cardinals suffered one of many disappointing losses this season on Wednesday night, falling to the Miami Marlins, 10-9.
The Cardinals allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth to lose the game in embarrassing fashion and Cards broadcaster Chip Caray went viral for his call and reaction to the play, which you can see below.
There were runners on first and second with one out in the ninth when reliever Jordan Hicks airmailed a throw to first base, allowing both runners to score.
This hurts even more because the Cardinals had actually scored two runs in the top of the ninth to take the lead - only to give it away.
With the loss, the Cardinals are 35-51 and in last place in the National League Central. They made the playoffs this year and join teams like the Padres, Mariners and Guardians as playoff teams from a year ago not repeating their success.
With the trade deadline just weeks away, you have to wonder if the Cardinals will sell, or if they'll try to get back into the race, but at 12.5 games back, that would be a stiff climb.
The Marlins, on the other hand, are one of the best stories in baseball this year. After the win, they are 51-37. They currently own the top wild card spot in the National League.
The two teams will finish off the series on Thursday night in Miami. First pitch is 6:40 p.m. ET as Jack Flaherty (5-5. 4.60 ERA) pitches against Eury Perez (5-2, 2.47).
