St. Louis Cardinals legend Adam Wainwright is wowing viewers with his intellect as he helps broadcast the American League Division Series.

Working for FOX Sports, Wainwright is working with Adam Amin and AJ Pierzynski for the Twins and Astros series.

The trio has drawn great praise all over social media and Wainwright specifically received great praise on Tuesday when he took the time to explain the difference between a sweeper and a slider.

You can see the video below from @PitchingNinja:

Thank you @UncleCharlie50

There has been much consternation this season over pitchers and broadcast teams using the term "sweeper," as several people just want to refer to the pitches as either sliders or curveballs.

Wainwright says they are all different pitches and that sliders don't move as much as sweepers. He adds that sweepers break late and don't rotate or spin the same way.

Now my question is... what happened to the slurve? But that's a question for another day.

As for Wainwright, he announced his retirement at the end of this past season. One of the most accomplished pitchers of his generation, he finished at 200-128 for his career. He pitched to a lifetime 3.53 ERA as well, making three All-Star teams and winning two Gold Glove awards.

He helped the Cardinals win the 2006 World Series and will leave a big void in their clubhouse for 2024.

St. Louis had a dreadful overall season, finishing in last place in the National League Central.
