The first-place Arizona Diamondbacks will open a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals Monday night at 7:45 p.m. ET at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.

Entering play Monday, the Diamondbacks lead the National League West with a 9-7 record, one game up on the Los Angeles Dodgers, and one and a half games up on the San Diego Padres.

The Cardinals are off to a cold start at 7-9, but hope to get back above .500. A three-game sweep of the Diamondbacks at home would do the trick.

Merrill Kelly (0-2, 2.93 ERA) will take the mound for the Diamondbacks in the series opener. Kelly represented the United States in the World Baseball Classic, pitching for Team USA in the 2023 tournament.

Jack Flaherty (1-1, 1.76 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season Monday night, pitching for the Cardinals. Flaherty appears to have returned to form, pitching the way he did in 2019, when he finished fourth in National League Cy Young Award voting. Since 2019, injuries have limited Flaherty. The 27-year-old, former first round pick is pitching like an ace again.
