The Chicago Cubs will open a three-game series against the Oakland Athletics Monday night at 9:40 p.m. ET at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland, California.

The Cubs have impressed through the first two weeks of the 2023 season, entering play Monday with an 8-6 record. The club began their West Coast road trip by taking two of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium over the weekend. Monday, they will play their second leg of their six-game road trip, before returning home to host the Dodgers Thursday. The Cubs and Dodgers will play a four-game series at Wrigley Field.

Last year, the A's lost over 100 games for the first time in a single season since 1979. 2023 appears to be every bit the rebuilding year that 2022 was, as Oakland has opened the season 3-13. Mark Kotsay's club hopes to get on the right track with the Cubs coming to town.

Rookie Hayden Wesneski (0-0, 7.50 ERA) has struggled in his first two starts of the new season. Wesneski recorded just four outs before Cubs manager David Ross yanked him from his last start, last week against the Seattle Mariners. Wesneski will take the bump for the Cubs Monday night.

Kyle Muller (0-0, 5.52 ERA) will make his fourth start of the season for the A's Monday night. Both Muller and Wesneski will try for their first win of the season, Monday night.
