While many picked the St. Louis Cardinals to repeat as National League Central champions, the Brewers have impressed through the first two weeks of the season, leading the NL Central with an 8-4 record. The Pittsburgh Pirates (7-5) trail the Brew Crew by one game, entering play Thursday.

The Padres are off to a 7-6 start and are one game back of first place in the National League West. The Padres are tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers for second place, one game behind the division-leading Arizona Diamondbacks (8-5).

Nick Martinez (0-1, 6.17 ERA) will take the mound for the Padres. Colin Rea (0-0, 0.00 ERA), who the Brewers called up from Triple-A Nashville Thursday afternoon, will make his first big league appearance since 2021, as he will start for the Brewers Thursday night.
