Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox Having "Active" Trade Talks Around Starting Pitcher
Trade season appears to be heating up.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays are discussing a trade for starting pitcher Lance Lynn.
The Tampa Bay #Rays are engaged in serious talks with the Chicago #Whitesox for veteran starter Lance Lynn. The two sides have already exchanged names.
Nightengale also says the Rays are one of ten teams on Lynn's no-trade list but he has told the White Sox that he will waive it to play for Tampa.
Lynn has had a difficult year for the underwhelming White Sox, going 6-9 with a 6.18 ERA. That said, he's shown durability, making 20 starts, and he's still shown the ability to strike batters out. The 36-year-old has 139 strikeouts in just 115 innings this year.
He's in his 12th year in the big leagues with the Cardinals, Twins, Yankees, Rangers and White Sox.
Lifetime, he owns a 129-93 record. He'd also bring playoff experience to Tampa Bay, having pitched in the playoffs in seven different seasons. He won a World Series with the 2011 Cardinals.
The Rays could use another arm in the wake of injuries to Jeffrey Springs and Drew Rasmussen, both of who are out for the season.
The Rays enter play on Wednesday at 1.5 games back in the American League East.
They'll take on the Miami Marlins on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12:10 p.m. ET as Sandy Alcantara pitches for Miami.
He's opposed by Zach Eflin for the Rays.
