Tampa Bay Rays Start Puts Them in Club that Historically Leads to World Series Title
The Tampa Bay Rays are out to an incredible start. This much we know and is obvious.
That said, the Rays are also joining a very exclusive club in major league history -- one that very well could lead them to the World Series.
The Rays are currently 29-7 on the season after beating the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night. Before the game, the Twitter account @OptaSTATS put out this nugget about the Rays great start.
"The @RaysBaseball are the fifth team in the World Series era to start 28-7 or better through 35 games.
The previous four teams to do so all made the World Series in the same season, going 3-1."
Again, that stat was published before the Rays win on Monday, so they are now 29-7 through 36 games. History tells us that the Rays should get to -- and win -- the World Series.
Tampa is already 6.5 games up on second place in the American League East, which is the second-biggest gap between first and second place of any division in baseball.
The Rays currently lead baseball in several statistical categories including runs scored (228), hits (t-336), home runs (73), total bases (634), ERA (2.93), shutouts (7), fewest home runs allowed (29), and WHIP (t-1.13).
The Rays will take on the Orioles again tonight in Baltimore. First pitch is 6:35 p.m. ET as Zach Eflin pitches for Tampa Bay against rookie Grayson Rodriguez for Baltimore.
Last night's score was 3-0 Rays as Shane McClanahan moved to 7-0 on the season.
