Texas Rangers Get Even Worse Injury Update on Star Third Baseman
After we initially heard that star third baseman Josh Jung was going to be out six weeks with a broken wrist, it appears the news is even more bleak for the Texas Rangers.
Per Stefan Stevenson of Inside the Rangers on social media:
Josh Jung wrist break was a little more severe once surgeon got in there last night. Chris Young now says Jung's timelime is more like 8 to 10 weeks on return.
It's unknown if that means 8-10 weeks until he gets back to the big leagues or 8-10 weeks until he can begin a rehab assignment, but either way, Jung is out until June.
It's a big loss for the defending champs, who rely on Jung to provide power in the middle of the order. Luckily, they still have Marcus Semien, Corey Seager, Adolis Garcia and Jonah Heim, as well as prospects Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford, but it's still a loss.
Jung became a huge part of the roster last season and made the All-Star team, hitting .266 with 23 homers and 70 RBI.
He was out to a blistering .412 start this season with two homers and six RBI.
This is just the latest in a series of early-season injuries for Texas, who is already out Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom, Tyler Mahle and Nate Lowe. The three pitchers won't be back until midseason or so.
The Rangers are currently tied for first in the American League West at 3-2. They'll take on the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday at 1:10 p.m. ET.
