Texas Rangers' Marcus Semien Does Something That Hasn't Been Done For Franchise in 15 Years
The Texas Rangers just keep on hitting. And Marcus Semien, specifically, just keeps on hitting.
The Rangers second baseman extended his hitting streak to 24 games on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
With the hit, it's the longest hitting streak for the franchise since Ian Kinsler hit in 25 games straight in 2008.
Per ESPN Stats & Info:
Marcus Semien extended his hit streak to 24 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the MLB. It is tied for the 3rd for the longest in franchise history (Mickey Rivers, 1980), and the longest since Ian Kinsler in 2008 (25).
It's been a great second year in Texas for Semien, who is now hitting .305 with nine homers, 48 RBI and seven stolen bases. He's posted an OPS of .878.
The Rangers are red-hot right now. They entered play on Monday at 38-20 and in first place in the American League West. They swept the Mariners over the weekend and currently lead the St. Louis Cardinals, 3-1, in the top of the fifth inning.
They are seeking to make their first playoff appearance since 2016 and with a historically good offense, they are on track to get there.
For his career, Semien is a .257 hitter with 195 homers and 613 RBIs. He's stolen 113 bases. He made his debut in 2013 with the Chicago White Sox and has played for the Sox, the Athletics, the Blue Jays and now Texas.
He has made an All-Star team and won a Gold Glove in his career and he's vying for a second All-Star appearance this year.
