Texas Rangers' Reveal Injury Recovery Timeline For Star Third Baseman

After breaking his wrist on Monday, Texas Rangers' third baseman Josh Jung is set to miss six weeks according to GM Chris Young.

UPDATE, 5:15 p.m. ET: According Stefan Stevenson of Inside the Rangers, Jung will miss six weeks of action.

TUESDAY (A.M): The Texas Rangers got brutal news on Monday night that star third baseman Josh Jung has suffered a broken wrist and is out indefinitely.

Bruce Bochy confirmed it after the game against the Tampa Bay Rays and Kennedi Landry of MLB.com had more on it:

Jung was removed from the Rangers’ 9-3 win over the Rays on Monday night at Tropicana Field after being hit by a pitch on his right hand as he swung at it. Bochy said postgame that scans quickly revealed a fractured wrist.

While there's no official timetable yet for recovery, Jung will certainly miss all of April and a good portion of May. It's the latest in a series of injuries for the defending World Champions, who are also out Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, and Tyler Mahle on the pitching front. Those three are all expected back in the neighborhood of midseason.

While the Rangers certainly have offensive firepower to help offset the loss of Jung, it is a big loss nonetheless. Jung became a huge part of the roster last season and made the All-Star team, hitting .266 with 23 homers and 70 RBI.

He was out to a blistering .412 start this season with two homers and six RBI.

In his place, the Rangers are calling up top prospect Justin Foscue, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.
