The Toronto Blue Jays have avoided arbitration with catcher Danny Jansen by agreeing to terms on a 2024 contract.

Per Robert Murray of Fansided:

Source: Danny Jansen, Blue Jays settle at $5.2 million, avoiding arbitration.

This is the final year of arbitration for Jansen, who will become a free agent after the 2024 season.

The 28-year-old Wisconsin native has spent parts of six years with the Blue Jays, becoming a big part of their revered offense. He forms a catching tandem with Alejandro Kirk and played in 86 games in 2023.

He's coming off a year in which he hit .228 with a career-high 17 homers and a career-high 53 RBI. He posted a .312 on-base percentage.

While arbitration proceedings and dealings are a regular part of the offseason calendar, it's been an eventful offseason for Toronto. They've lost Whit Merrifield, Brandon Belt and Matt Chapman in free agency and have brought back Kevin Kiermaier.

They also finished just short in the running to sign coveted free agent Shohei Ohtani. As the Blue Jays look for ways to pivot, they could try to bring back Chapman but they've also been connected to free agent outfielder Cody Bellinger.

The Blue Jays finished third in the American League East last season and made the playoffs as a wild card team. Unfortunately for them, they were swept in the best-of-three series by the Minnesota Twins, marking the second straight season that the Jays failed to win a single playoff game.

Toronto also got swept by Seattle in 2022.
