Toronto Blue Jays' George Springer Leaves Game After HBP, Likely Heading For X-Ray
The Toronto Blue Jays are holding their breath on Wednesday after star outfielder George Springer left the game early.
The veteran was hit on right hand by a pitch from Chicago White Sox starter Michael Kopech. He was hit by the pitch in the third inning and stayed into play defense but was lifted for a pinch-hitter before his next at-bat.
Springer will likely head for X-rays to see if anything is broken. That was the speculation on Fantasy site RotoWire after he was removed:
"Springer was able to take his base after being plunked by a Michael Kopech offering in the third inning and then played right field in the top of the fourth, but he was lifted for a pinch hitter the next time his turn in the lineup came up. He'll presumably be headed for X-rays as the Blue Jays look to see if he sustained any fractures to the hand."
The 33-year-old is a pillar of the Blue Jays stellar lineup, pairing with Matt Chapman, Vlad Guerrero Jr., Alejando Kirk and others to make one of the best lineups in all of baseball.
He's a career .268 hitter who is off to a slow start this year at .216. He has three home runs, nine RBI and four stolen bases thus far.
He's in his tenth season in the big leagues and third with the Blue Jays. He spent the first seven years of his career with the Astros organization and helped them win the 2017 World Series, when they beat the Los Angeles Dodgers.
