Toronto Blue Jays Give Teoscar Hernandez Tribute Video in Return with Seattle Mariners
As the Toronto Blue Jays host the Seattle Mariners this weekend in a rematch of last year's wild card playoff series, the Blue Jays also welcome back a former team member to Toronto.
Teoscar Hernandez spent part of six years with Toronto after starting his career with the Houston Astros and became a huge part of the Blue Jays resurgence.
While top prospects like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette received most of the attention in the Jays rebirth, Hernandez was an excellent player for Toronto. In the six years North of the Border, Hernandez played 609 games, hitting 129 home runs and bringing in 369 runs.
He helped lead the Jays to the playoffs in the 2020 and 2022 seasons and was named an all-star in the 2021 season.
He finished with 32 homers and 116 RBI in that season, his most productive as a pro.
Hernandez was traded to the Mariners this offseason in a deal that brought Erik Swanson back to Toronto. A minor leaguer also accompanied Swanson in the deal.
Currently, for Seattle, Hernandez is hitting .224 with six home runs.
In his place, the Blue Jays signed outfielder Kevin Kiermaier, who has made his own impact in their organization. They also signed Brandon Belt.
Before the first game of the series on Friday, the Blue Jays honored Hernandez with a tribute video that they also posted online.
You can watch that video here.
Entering the game, the Blue Jays are 16-9 while the Mariners are 11-14.
