Toronto Blue Jays' Insider Addresses Bo Bichette Trade Rumors

We heard recently that Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays could possibly be traded. Jays' Insider Ben Nicholson-Smith has information on that.

We recently heard that Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette's name has come up in trade discussions this offseason, with the Chicago Cubs being a team of possible interest.

Jays' Insider Ben Nicholson-Smith had information on that, downplaying the possibility:

The non-Jays execs I've spoken to this winter are under the impression the Blue Jays plan to keep Bo Bichette. Now, that doesn’t stop other teams from expressing interest, but remember, it takes two for any real traction to develop. Bichette is in his prime and locked up affordably for two more years, giving the Blue Jays all kinds of reasons to keep him and little urgency to move him.

It would be very difficult to move Bichette, given how integral he is to the Blue Jays' success. He's also immensely popular and marketable, which matters.

That said, both he and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. are headed for lucrative paydays in the near future and some insiders have suggested that Toronto may not be able to keep them both.

Bichette hit .306 in 2023 with 20 homers and 73 RBI. He did all this in 135 games, missing some time with injury. Lifetime, he's already a two-time All-Star who has received MVP votes in three different seasons.

He's a .299 career hitter with 89 homers and 312 RBI.

The Blue Jays made the playoffs in 2023, finishing third in the American League East. Unfortunately, they were swept in the wild card round by the Minnesota Twins - the second straight year they've gone down in two games in that round.
