Toronto Blue Jays Present Detroit Tigers Legend Miguel Cabrera Unique Gift in Final Trip to Toronto
The Detroit Tigers beat the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday night by a score of 3-1 to salvage one game of the three-game set.
But the real highlight came before the game when the Blue Jays presented Tigers legend Miguel Cabrera with a unique framed photo array in his last trip to Toronto.
Cabrera, 39, is retiring after the season ends so this is his final trip to Toronto.
The Tigers posted a photo of the gift with the caption:
"Toronto will always hold a special place in Miggy's heart.
Before the series finale, the @BlueJays and Victor Martinez presented @MiguelCabrera with framed photos from his 500th home run."
Cabrera hit his 500th home run on August 23rd, 2021 in Toronto off of Steven Matz. At the time, Cabrera was the 28th player in MLB history to accomplish the feat. He currently has 507 career home runs in his illustrious career.
Long considered one of the best right-handed hitters in baseball history, Cabrera is a lock for the hall of fame. Injuries have slowed him drastically since 2017 but that shouldn't deter from an overall body of work.
He's in his 21st season in the big leagues and is a lifetime .308 hitter. He's a 12-time all-star, a 7x Silver Slugger, a four-time batting champion, a two-time MVP and has won a World Series title and is the owner of a triple crown. He also is part of the 3,000 hit club.
He came onto the scene as a 20-year-old with the Florida Marlins and helped them win the World Series in 2003. He spent five years in Florida and has spent 16 with the Tigers.
He plays sparingly these days and is hitting .208.
It was a nice touch by the Blue Jays to bring out Victor Martinez to help present the gift on Thursday. Martinez is a special assistant for the Blue Jays this year and spent seven years in Detroit as Cabrera's teammate.
