There's another veteran reliever on the market, as Ryan Tepera has cleared unconditional release waivers and is now a free agent.
The nine-year veteran spent the last two years with the Los Angeles Angels, pitching to a 2-2 record with a 7.27 ERA in 10 games this season. Last year, he was 5-4 with a 3.61 ERA.
Teams are always looking for bullpen help, so it stands to reason that a veteran like Tepera will find a new home again soon. He's pitched in 371 career games and owns a 19-20 record and a 3.59 ERA.
He made his major league debut in 2015 with the Toronto Blue Jays. He pitched 2015-2019 in Toronto before spending 2020 with the Cubs, 2021 with the Cubs and White Sox and 2022 and 2023 with the Angels.
He also owns postseason experience, pitching for the Blue Jays in both 2015 and 2016, the Cubs in 2020 and the White Sox in 2021. He has pitched in six career postseason games and owns a 5.87 ERA.
He spent some time on the injured list year as well.
Tepera is not the only prominent reliever currently on the open market. We recently reported about former closer Ken Giles holding a workout for interested teams. As of now, nothing has materialized for Giles, but again, teams are always looking for bullpen help.
Because of that, Tepera can probably afford to be a tad selective. It's likely that he can wait for a specific opportunity closer to the trade deadline also if he wants.
