Washington Nationals Draft Pick Dylan Crews Speaks on Being Selected No. 2 Overall
The Washington Nationals selected outfielder Dylan Crews with the No. 2 pick in the MLB Draft on Sunday night.
The LSU product helped the Bayou Bengals win the College World Series and was named the Golden Spikes winner as the best player in all of college baseball.
He hit a whopping .426 this season with 18 homers and 70 RBI for the Tigers, all while posting an absurd .567 on-base percentage. He was taken one pick after his LSU teammate, Paul Skenes, who went No. 1 to the Pirates.
After being picked, Crews caught up with MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM to discuss his selection:
"I know they've got a great organization and a great development program... I'm ready to go in and be the leader that I am, on and off the field. I'm ready to get going and grow with those guys...Three things (about me): One of the hardest workers in the country, loves to play the game and just wants to win."
The Nationals have been stuck in a lengthy rebuild since winning the World Series in 2019 but they've restocked the farm system through blockbuster trades of Max Scherzer, Trea Turner and Juan Soto, so the future is looking brighter in DC.
There's no timetable on when Crews could arrive in Washington but you'd have to imagine he's at least a few seasons away. Perhaps by that time, the current young core of Nationals players will have sprouted into a contender.
The Nationals are in last place currently in the National League East.
