The Washington Nationals have selected LSU outfielder Dylan Crews with the No. 2 pick in the Major League Baseball Draft. Crews helped the Tigers to the National Championship this year, where they defeated Florida.

He was selected one pick after his LSU teammate Paul Skenes, who went No. 1 to the Pirates. It's the first time that one school has had the top two picks.

He won the Golden Spikes Award this year for the nation's top collegiate player after hitting .426 with 18 homers and 70 RBI. He also posted a .567 on-base percentage and stole six bases.

The Nationals have been mired in a lengthy rebuild since winning the 2019 World Series but after restocking the farm system in the trades of Max Scherzer, Trea Turner and Juan Soto - and now with the selection of Crews - the future looks brighter in Washington.

The last time the Nationals took a high profile outfielder (Bryce Harper), it worked out pretty well, with Harper winning an MVP award in Washington.

The 6-foot outfielder has played three years of college baseball. He could always threaten to go back to LSU for another year and while that is an unlikely scenario, it does give him leverage to get more money out of Washington, potentially.

At the major league level, the Nationals are 36-54 and in last place in the National League East. They did win their last two before the All-Star break, beating the Texas Rangers, who are the leaders of the American League West.
