WATCH: Miami Marlins Youngster Eury Perez Hits 98 MPH For First Strikeout
Miami Marlins young righty Eury Perez didn't take long to record his first career strikeout.
The 20-year-old Perez is making his major league debut as we speak, and pumped 98 mph to Cincinnati Reds catcher Tyler Stephenson to end the top of the first inning.
You can watch the video here.
Perez is the first player born in 2003 to make his debut and is one of the top pitching prospects in the game. He's the No. 1 ranked Marlins prospect and the No. 10 overall prospect in the sport.
He was 2-1 at Double-A before getting the call earlier this week.
For more on Perez, here's a portion of his MLB.com prospect profile:
Pérez's combination of size, stuff and polish is tough to top, starting with a fastball that parks at 94-97 mph and peaks at 100 and plays even better than its velocity thanks to its shape, running action and induced vertical break. His deceptive upper-80s changeup is just as nasty, generating an outstanding 61 percent swing-and-miss rate in 2022 thanks to its fade and tumble. After featuring an upper-70s curveball in the past, he added a tighter mid-80s slider last season that grades as plus more consistently than his bender.
The Marlins enter play on Friday at 19-19 and in second place in the National League East. At the time of this posting, they are tied with the Reds at 0-0 in the top of the second.
Perez allowed no hits and one walk in the top of the first, in addition to the strikeout.
