WATCH: Harold Reynolds Details the Changes in Seattle Mariners' Jarred Kelenic
Seattle Mariners outfielder Jarred Kelenic is off to the best start of his young career and seems to be a highlight machine each day.
The 23-year-old is hitting a blistering .362 with a .423 on-base percentage in the early going. He's got four home runs and eight RBI and his single on Sunday led the Mariners to a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rockies.
That was on top of his homering in four consecutive games last week. You can see those homers at this link.
Former Mariners infielder and current MLB Network host Harold Reynolds discussed Kelenic's hot start on Monday and talked about the adjustments he's made and why he thinks that Kelenic's play is sustainable. You can see his full thoughts below:
"He's made a mental adjustment... He got rid of the one at-bat that so often plagues us as a hitter, that one pitch... mentally he is so much mentally stronger. He's gone through some struggles but I'm telling you, the kid is figuring it out. He's going to be everything that he's advertised to be because mentally he's catching up with that physical ability."
Kelenic certainly has been through the struggles in his young career.
He was the centerpiece of the Mariners-Mets trade that sent Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to New York before the 2019 season.
Kelenic made his debut in 2021 but struggled to gain traction in both 2021 and 2022. He played 93 games in 2021, hitting .181 and played 54 games in 2022, hitting .141.
Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto recently spoke on the reasons for his early success.
The Mariners open up a series with the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday at 9:40 p.m. ET.
