WATCH: Phillies' Realmuto Ejected in Ridiculous Spring Moment

The Phillies backstop really got ejected for this?

In an edition of "#UmpShows Spring Version," Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto was ejected in one of the more surreal moments I've ever seen.

Huh? Realmuto puts his glove up, expecting the umpire to replace the baseball, but there's some miscommunication as to when the baseball is coming his way. So he closes the glove too early and doesn't get the ball. Seems to be no harm, no foul, right? Just pick up the baseball and give it to him properly, or just let Realmuto pick it himself and toss it to his pitcher.

Seems simple enough.

Not according to home plate umpire Randy Rosenberg, who decided that Realmuto was egregiously in the wrong.

What exactly did he do wrong? We aren't sure, but it's one of the more egregious #UmpShows we've seen.

Luckily, it was just the spring and Realmuto will be full-go for Thursday's Phillies opener at Texas, but sheesh... I mean, the guy also just recently got back to Phillies camp from a stay with Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. Is this really the way to welcome him back?

Realmuto is entering year five with the Phillies and is looking to help them get back to the World Series again this year. If the Phils are able to have another great season, his offense will be a big reason why, as he hit .276 last year with 22 homers and 84 RBIs.
