WATCH: Seattle Mariners' Julio Rodriguez Makes History in Win
Seattle Mariners superstar outfielder Julio Rodriguez made some team history on Friday afternoon, becoming the fastest Mariners player ever to reach 30 home runs.
The reigning American League Rookie of the Year needed just 140 career games to reach the 30-homer milestone, surpassing Jim Presly, who needed 156 games.
Rodriguez hit a two-run shot in the top of the sixth inning, which broke a 3-3 tie and helped lead the Mariners to a 5-3 win.
He took a slider from Guardians reliever Nick Sandlin out to deep left field. It was his second home run of the season and helped the M's to their third win of the season. They are now 3-5 while Cleveland drops to 5-3.
The Mariners overcame a 3-0 deficit in this one, starting their comeback in the fifth inning on a double by JP Crawford and a single by Ty France. In the sixth, Crawford doubled again to tie the game at 3-3 before Rodriguez delivered the heroics.
Matt Brash, Andres Munoz and Paul Sewald locked down the game from the bullpen perspective.
Rodriguez was the story afterwards though. One of the most dynamic players in baseball, the 22-year-old hit .284 last season with 28 homers and 75 RBIs. He stole 25 bases as well en route to the Rookie of the Year award.
The Mariners and Guardians will play again on Saturday night at 6:10 p.m. ET. as Marco Gonzales opposes Cal Quantrill.
