WATCH: St. Louis Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar Details Playing with Shohei Ohtani
It was an eventful spring for St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Lars Nootbaar, who won a World Baseball Classic championship while playing for Team Japan.
Nootbaar was a major force for the Japanese squad, becoming an international sensation in the process. He hit at the top of the Japanese order, hitting .269 and posting four RBI.
Nootbaar recently joined the 'Chris Rose Rotation' podcast on Jomboy Media to discuss the experience of the WBC, and what it was like to play alongside Japanese star and Los Angeles catalyst Shohei Ohtani. You can see his full comments below.
'The next day I went to the field and I met Shohei for the first time and he came up to me and approached me. I can't say enough good words about Shohei. I mean, the most impressive human being that I've ever met. On the field, off the field, the amount of attention that he receives over there, and how he handles it, and how humble of a guy he is, and what a sense of humor he has too..."
Stateside, Nootbaar is out to a good start for the Cardinals this year. He missed some time on the injured list but is back now, hitting .286 with one home run.
He made his major league debut in 2021 and became a pseudo-regular in 2022, playing 108 games for the Cardinals.
He's a lifetime .232 hitter.
As for Ohtani, he's the best player in the world. He's 2-0 on the mound with a 0.90 ERA while hitting .288 with three home runs.
Nootbaar and the Cardinals will take on the Diamondbacks tonight at 7:45 p.m. ET while Ohtani and the Angels take on the Yankees at 7:05 p.m. ET.
