Get the tissues ready because this is the wholesome content that we're here for.
A nice scene unfolded on Friday night at Petco Park as Xander Bogaerts and Rafael Devers exchanged the lineup cards in advance of the Padres and Red Sox game.
It's the first game for Bogaerts against his old team as he signed with the Padres in the offseason after spending 10 years with the Red Sox. He left this offseason for an 11-year, $280 million deal after the Red Sox failed to lock him up prior to free agency.
You can watch the reunion at home plate here, courtesy of the Padres television network. Devers said recently that he still talks to Bogaerts every single day.
While the Padres entered play on Friday at a disappointing 20-24, Bogaerts is off to a nice start in his new city. He came into the game batting .275 with six homers and 16 RBI. For his career, he's a .291 hitter with 162 homers and 699 RBI. He helped the Red Sox win the World Series in both 2013 and 2018.
As for Devers, he's off to a powerful start this season as well. He homered in the second inning of this game and now has 12 homers and 41 RBI on the season.
The Red Sox entered play at 24-20 and in fifth place in the American League East.
These two teams will meet again on Saturday night with first pitch being slated for 10:10 p.m. ET. Chris Sale will pitch against Joe Musgrove.
