Yup, I Miss the "Vest" Uniforms in Major League Baseball

The "vest" uniforms were a great fad of the late 1990s and early 2000s and I wish they were back.

Nostalgia is in these days.

Everything that was popular in the 1990s is popular again today. Clothing styles have been brought back, television shows have been brought back. Retro is fashionable.

So, I have a question? Where are the retro Major League Baseball vest uniforms?? I miss those.

Now, I want to give credit where credit is due. Paul Lukas at Uni-Watch wrote a similar story to this several years ago when he was at ESPN. You can read that here.

But I did a rare thing recently: I actually played a video game. Like most of you, I don't get much time to play video games, but I had a chance the other day to play MLB The Show '22 (yes, not '23). It was a blast to be able to play again, but it was even more fulfilling to go through the teams and examine all the uniform combos, a number of which included the awesome alternate vests.

You can see some of them below here:

Now, I didn't get pictures of all of them, but several other teams had vest uniforms in rotation.

Per Lukas:

At least 14 teams -- the Angels, Blue Jays, Devil Rays, Diamondbacks, Indians, Mariners, Marlins, Pirates, Rangers, Rockies, Royals, Reds, Twins, White Sox -- wore vests during this period. The Silver Age also brought two more vest-clad World Series champs: the 1997 Marlins and the 2001 Diamondbacks.

I'm sure the reasons we can't have vests in rotation again has to do with the uniform limits team have (you can only have four uniforms in rotation), and also because they are harder to sell to fans, but dang, they looked awesome.

If retro is in, let's go and get the vests back!
