Months of buildup will finally come to a head when Fury welcomes Ngannou to the boxing ring for the first time today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Not being able to test himself in boxing was reportedly one of the major obstacles that Ngannou and the UFC were unable to agree on during contract negotiations. “The Predator” decided to walk away from the promotion as its reigning heavyweight champion at the beginning of this year and signed on with the PFL before announcing that he’d face Fury in a boxing match.

According to Michael Benson, the matchup has officially been sanctioned by the British Boxing Board of Control as of fight day and will proceed as a pro bout that will appear on both men’s respective records.

The news that the fight has been sanctioned as a pro bout is certainly exciting as far as the legitimacy of the contest, but no doubt that will also make some fans question why Fury's heavyweight titles won’t be on the line in Saudi Arabia.

Regardless of titles or whether or not it's a sanctioned pro bout, Ngannou will know the odds are decidedly against him when he steps into the ring for his boxing debut.

“The Predator” certainly has the power necessary to land a one-punch knockout, but Fury has largely built his career off of being defensively sound and likely won't provide many opportunities for Ngannou to score what would be one of the biggest upsets in combat sports history.
