The main card of UFC 291 has lost a fight.

All fighters set to compete in the event stepped on the scale for the weigh-ins on Friday, but not everyone made weight. One of the fighters who had a scale fail was Michel Pereira. He could not fulfil his obligation, and weighed in three pounds above the welterweight limit for a non-title fight.

After Pereira's miss, UFC play-by-play commentator Jon Anik announced to media members that a decision on whether or not the bout would still go on hadn't been decided. Several hours later, the bombshell was dropped.

UFC 291 WEIGH-IN RESULTS: POIRIER VS. GAETHJE 2 OFFICIAL, TWO FIGHTERS WHIFF ON SCALE

UFC roving reporter Megan Olivi revealed before the ceremonial weigh-ins that the planned welterweight bout between Stephen Thompson and Michel Pereira is off.

It's a tough break for "Wonderboy" Thompson, who was looking to capitalize off his latest victory over Kevin Holland, who will be competing on the card against Michael Chiesa.

As for Pereira, it's a bad look for the exciting 170-pounder, who is riding a five-fight winning streak. This is not the first time he has struggled during weigh-in day.

Time will tell if the UFC will try to rebook this fight down the line, but for right now, fight fans are left without Thompson vs. Pereira.
