One UFC veteran believes Colby Covington's fighting career might be nearing its end depending on the outcome of his next fight.

On December 16, Covington will once again compete for the UFC Welterweight Championship. The title fight is set to headline UFC 296. He'll be sharing the Octagon with titleholder Leon Edwards.

While Covington has laid claim to interim UFC gold in the past, he's never obtained undisputed status.

During a recent edition of MMAFighting's "The Fighter vs. The Writer," UFC knockout artist Matt Brown explained to Damon Martin why he feels a loss could mean the end of Colby Covington's pro MMA career.

"I have a hard time believing he’s going to continue fighting if he loses this fight, to be honest,” Brown said. "He just doesn’t come across as that kind of guy to me."

Brown further explained why he can't picture Covington going to the back of the line and accepting fights with rising welterweight fighters on the climb back to the title picture.

"He hasn’t fought for two years. He’s not built like me, where I love fighting, and if I lost 10 in a row, I’d still want to fight. He’s the kind of guy where I think he’s in there to get paid, get his money, stir up as much s*** as he can and get out. Nothing against that. I’m not saying that’s a wrong way to do it. Had I operated in that fashion, maybe I’d be living in a bigger home right now. It is what it is, but [this is his third title shot], and he hasn’t fought for two years.

"What would he even do after this if he were to lose again? He’s got a murderer’s row coming up."

This could very well be Covington's final opportunity at undisputed UFC gold. He had two tries against Kamaru Usman, but couldn't pull off the win in either fight. Perhaps third time's the charm?
