Father of Retired UFC Star Jorge Masvidal Charged With Attempted Murder

Jorge Masvidal Fernandez, 67, has been jailed in Miami-Dade County following a shooting incident in his son's home. The father of "Gamebred" has been charged with second-degree attempted murder with a deadly weapon. He posted $10,000 bond, according to police records.

A search warrant of the home of retired UFC star, Masvidal Jr., was conducted by Miami-Dade police. In the search, a .38 caliber revolver was found. Local 10 News reportedly spotted the fighter arriving at his home while police were investigating. The senior Masvidal was booked into jail around 1 a.m. on Friday.

Miami-Dade police detective Chris Thomas had the following to say to reporters on the incident.

“We’re grateful that no one else was shot during this incident," Thomas said. "It could have easily been worse."

According to police, family members at Masvidal Jr.'s home said that Masvidal Sr. and the victim are acquaintances. The victim was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. Word on his condition is unknown at this time.

While the incident was being reported, Masvidal Jr. was promoting his Gamebred Bare Knuckle MMA event, which features a clash between former UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson and Dillon Cleckler. That event will take place inside the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida. 

The card will also include Emiliano Sordi vs. Markus Perez , Jonathan Tuck vs. Handesson Ferreira, Joseph Penafiel vs. Irwin Rivera , Jamahl Tatum vs. Carl Seumanutafa, Anthony Njokuani vs. James Freeman, and more.
