The purpose of the auction is to raise funds for the installation of a water pump in Gorimbo's hometown village in Zimbabwe. Gorimbo announced the auction via his Instagram:

"Auction time - so I've always wanted to this and forgot to do this yesterday at [the UFC Vegas 73 press conference].

"I want to auction my fight kit from [the Sato fight] and put money towards building a water pump back home in my village in Zimbabwe.

"The money I need to get is $3200 and would be great if I can get this done for my people. This can help them get clean water for [their] household purposes, gardening and more.

"Please help me help them."

Themba Gorimbo Reveals He Had Less Than $10 to His Name Prior to UFC Debut

In an Instagram post on May 21, the day after UFC Vegas 73, Gorimbo revealed to his followers that he had less than $10 to his name prior to his UFC debut:

"This was the money I had before the [Sato] fight and now God granted me a good win and It's going to be a great one going forward.

"If it wasn't for the free UFC meals I started to receive after I signed the fight I would probably be singing a different story.

"I appreciate everything and now my life is going to take the turn I believe. I call it the rise."

As of May 22, Gorimbo has only made one update regarding the auction. There's no indication whether it's been a success, but Gorimbo believes "that I will get the opportunity in my next fight" to supply the pump himself. However, he'd still like to see if the auction works.
