An unfortunate incident took place inside the Rogers Arena ahead of the biggest Canadian fight of the night between Mike Malott and Adam Fugitt. As Malott made his walk out, a railing above the tunnel collapsed and sent fans sprawling.

Had the railing fallen a second earlier, it could have fallen on Malott. Having their prized Canadian fighter injured before he could enter the Octagon would have been a tough pill for the UFC to swallow.

UFC play-by-play man Jon Anik announced several minutes later that no one was injured in the accident.

“Everyone is fine,” said Anik, “Just buy them a beer. Canadians are tough.”

The fight itself was very entertaining and ended with Canada getting to witness a win from a potential homegrown star. Malott dropped Fugitt at the start of the second round with a two-punch combination that was the beginning of the end. With Fugitt compromised, Malott jumped on a guillotine choke and quickly forced a tap.

The win marks his third-straight win since joining the UFC and sixth-straight win overall. He has provided a finish in each of his ten professional wins.

The UFC almost had an accident outside of the cage that could have spoiled a great night inside the cage. The promotion loaded the card with Canadian fighters and every one of them brought home a victory in front of their home crowd.
