UFC 300 Results: Zhang Weili Retains Title in Historic UFC 300 Title Fight
The historic all-Chinese title fight featured as the co-main event for UFC 300 saw Zhang Weili successfully defend her strawweight title for the second time when she defeated Yan Xiaonan.
"Magnum" kicked off her second reign as strawweight champion with a dominant performance against Amanda Lemos at UFC 292 last year, and at UFC 300 the promotion elected to put together its first title bout featuring two fighters from China for Zhang's second title defense.
She had to overcome some serious adversity after nearly winning the fight in the opening frame, but throughout five rounds Zhang was able to outwork her Chinese compatriot to earn a unanimous decision and defend her title for the second time.
Zhang has now won four fights in a row following her back-to-back losses to fellow two-time strawweight champion Rose Namajunas, and although two of the victories during that win streak came via stoppage the Xiaonan fight may have been her most impressive performance to date.
The prelims for UFC 300 saw former strawweight titleholder Jéssica Andrade earn her second win in a row when she took a decision over Marina Rodriguez, and perhaps "Bate Estaca" will be next in line to challenge Zhang after the Brazilian was knocked out in their first meeting in 2019.
