One ex-UFC title challenger feels Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington isn't a given for the next welterweight title fight.

UFC President Dana White recently revealed to TNT Sports that Edwards' next 170-pound title defense was trending towards the UFC 295 card. That event is set to be headlined by a UFC heavyweight title fight between champion Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. The card will emanate from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Taking to his YouTube channel, former UFC middleweight title contender Chael Sonnen expressed concern over the Edwards vs. Covington title fight not being made official at this time.

"I've seen Leon say, 'No,' a long time ago," Sonnen said. "I've seen him more recently, as in within the last four days, say it looks like it's going to be Colby. But between no and it looks like it's gonna be Colby, I wasn't comfortable that we had landed quite on Colby. So, that's what I was asking, do we have this done? I don't think so. I got an answer back from Colby, and again, I asked him, 'Can I share this?' He said, 'Yeah.' Got an answer back from Colby and there was a lot in it. He's planning to fight him, he looked great in the video, he's training, he's not as interested in going to the desert as he is going to New York. I heard a lot of things from Colby, I didn't hear, 'Yes, it's done.'"

Edwards initially said he'd be ready to go for October at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi. The UFC recently announced Islam Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveira 2 and Khamzat Chimaev vs. Paulo Costa for the card, so Edwards vs. Covington isn't likely for that event.

We'll keep you posted on the next UFC Welterweight Championship fight once more details become available.
