VIDEO: Amanda Nunes Retires On Top, Overwhelms Irene Aldana At UFC 289

The UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship fight has wrapped up.

Amanda Nunes vs. Irene Aldana has come to a close.

Nunes put the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship on the line against Aldana. "The Lioness" was expecting to share the Octagon with Julianna Pena a third time. Pena suffered an injury and had to bow out of the fight.

Aldana got in some clean strikes in the opening frame. She landed a clean one-two combination. Nunes had a stiff jab. 

In the second stanza, Nunes grabbed a hold of Aldana's leg and slammed her down, but didn't have top control. Nunes scored with a combination. Nunes landed a left to the body followed by a right hand upstairs. Nunes scored a takedown, but the action quickly resumed on the feet near the end of the round.

Aldana landed an inside leg kick in round three. Nunes gained top control. Aldana got back on her feet, but Nunes quickly tracked her down near the fence and brought her back down. They returned to the feet. Near the end of the round, Nunes blitzed her opponent with a right hand and a knee to the body.

A nasty elbow connected for Nunes in the fourth round. "The Lioness" scored a takedown late in the round.

It didn't take Nunes long to go back to the grappling in the final round. She maintained top control for most of the round. By the time the horn sounds, the result was clear. Nunes was awarded the unanimous decision victory to successfully retained the UFC Women's Bantamweight Championship.

After the fight, Nunes announced that she is retiring from pro MMA competition.
