An awful eye poke at UFC Jacksonville ended one heavyweight battle in a matter of seconds.

Austen Lane made his UFC debut against Justin Tafa inside the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday (June 24). Things certainly didn't end the way both combatants envisioned.

Less than 30 seconds into the fight, Lane caught Tafa with a brutal accidental eye poke. Tafa immediately turned around, covering his face and the action was halted by referee Dan Miragliotta. Blood started trickling out of the eye of Tafa.

The Octagon-side doctor told Miragliotta that while he'd give Tafa five minutes to recover, he was told by the fighter that he could not see. The bout was called off and ruled a no contest.

Here is how it went down between Austen Lane and Justin Tafa but BE WARNED, it is graphic.

This is the first time Lane hasn't walked out of the cage with a win since March 2020. He had won six straight fights. Lane finished all of his fights in that span.

It's obviously a tough break for Tafa, who is simply hoping his eye can avoid permanent damage. Tafa was looking to extend his winning streak to three. The crowd-pleasing heavyweight had notched two straight first-round KO wins.

We'll keep you updated with an injury update on Justin Tafa once more details become available.
