The main event of UFC Vegas 73 featuring Mackenzie Dern vs. Angela Hill has wrapped up.

Dern and Hill shared the Octagon inside the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. For Dern, a win was crucial in order to keep her spot in the top 10 UFC strawweight rankings. For Hill, it was a big opportunity to jump from the number 14 spot, potentially to the top 10.

In the opening frame, Dern surprised her opponent with her strikes. She grabbed a hold of her opponent and Dern went for a judo throw, but Hill reversed the position. The two returned to their feet and Dern dropped Hill with a punch. Dern worked her way to an arm bar, but the horn sounded to end round one.

The second stanza was lack active for Dern, as Hill did a good job neutralizing her offense by clinching her against the fence. The two broke free and Hill landed a right hand. The two exchanged strikes before tying up again near the end of the round.

Dern landed a huge knee to the jaw of Hill in round three, but she overcommitted on the trip takedown again, and was reversed. Still, Dern was able to get back up and scored a takedown. Hill showed heart, but she was dominated in this round, with Dern mounting her and landing a series of strikes. Dern went for the arm bar, but time expired.

Hill hung in tough for rounds four and five, but Dern's powerful grappling was too much. The fight went the distance and this one wasn't difficult to score. Dern emerged victorious via unanimous decision.
