Jayson Miralpez proved that amateur MMA bouts can be just as violent as professional ones when he brutally finished Joseph Lusuegro in the opening round of their fight.

The two men met in a flyweight matchup this week as part of Universal Reality Combat Championship 88, which took place in Metro Manila in The Philippines.

Miralpez entered the night with just a 1-0 record in MMA, but the 19-year-old had also previously competed in Muay Thai and boxing bouts. Lusuegro immediately closed the distance once the fight started and got things to the fence before he was able to drag Miralpez to the mat.

It didn't take very long for Lusuegro to pass from side control into mount, but Miralpez pulled off a slick sweep to put himself in top position and quickly lifted his opponent up before he brought him back to the mat with a big slam.

The 35-year-old maintained his guard despite Miralpez’s efforts, which encouraged “Dumagmang Warrior” to brutally slam Lusuegroto to the canvas several more times before a couple of quick punches encouraged the referee to step in and end things.

The violent finish came less than 90 seconds into the flyweight matchup, and Miralpez is now 2-0 in his young career as an amateur MMA fighter.

The bout between Miralpez and Lusuegro featured as one of several amateur matchups at URCC 88, but the event also featured some pro action in the lightweight main event that saw Burn Soriano submit UFC veteran CJ De Tomas with a triangle choke in the first round.
