PFL News: Women's Boxing Champion Set for MMA Debut in June

Another decorated female boxer is set to make her debut in the PFL later this year.

Last year the PFL made a significant push to sign several high-profile names such as Francis Ngannou and Jake Paul, and in August the promotion announced it had also inked a deal with women’s boxing champion Savannah Marshall.

“Silent Assassin” suffered her first pro loss to Claressa Shields in 2022 before she rebounded with a win over Franchón Crews-Dezurn last July, and now Marshall is set to make her MMA debut at a PFL event in Newcastle, England on June 8.

Marshall’s debut should be a huge moment for the PFL no matter what opponent she ends up facing, and the news that 32-year-old had signed on with the promotion last August immediately created speculation around an MMA rematch with Shields.

The PFL has already kicked off its 2024 schedule with the year’s first PFL Europe event as well as the inaugural PFL vs. Bellator card. The PFL Regular Season is also set to start later this week, and an event stacked with Bellator veterans has experienced one late-notice change with Marcelo Golm stepping in to replace Tyrell Fortune for a bout with Daniel James.

Last year’s big free agent moves and Bellator acquisition all set the PFL up for a pivotal 2024, and Marshall’s debut in June promises to be a significant part of what could end up being the promotion’s most successful year to date.
