Former UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira gets his third title fight against former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka, in the co-main spot for UFC 295 at Madison Square Garden, on November 11. The news was first announced by UFC CEO Dana White on September 20. Pereira and Prochazka will serve as the co-main to Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic who fight for the heavyweight title.
The current lineup for UFC 295 is as follows (subject to change):
- Dennis Buzukja vs. Jamall Emmers - Featherweight
- Mateusz Rebecki vs. Nurullo Aliev - Lightweight
- Pat Sabatini vs. Diego Lopes - Featherweight
- Jared Gordon vs. Mark Madsen - Lightweight
- #9 Matt Schnell vs. #14 Steve Erceg - Flyweight
- Joshua Van vs. Kevin Borjas - Flyweight
- #5 Jessica Andrade vs. #7 Mackenzie Dern - Strawweight
- #1 Jiri Prochazka vs. #3 Alex Pereira - Light Heavyweight Title Fight
- (c) Jon Jones vs. #3 Stipe Miocic - Heavyweight Title Fight
Pereira will have a chance to make a record-setting title run. Since his debut in the UFC, "Poatan" has had seven fights overall, with three of them being title fights. In this time, Pereira has won and lost the middleweight strap, moved up, and now has a chance to become a two-division champion.
Prochazka also has the opportunity to do the unprecedented by becoming a two-time UFC champion in just four fights. "BJP" entered the promotion with two straight finishes over game-ranked opposition. He then had one of the greatest title fights of all time against Glover Teixeira. Prochazka unfortunately vacated the title due to a shoulder injury earlier this year.
