Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill was reportedly arrested this week following an altercation with his brother.
“Sweet Dreams” began this year on a high note when he won a unanimous decision over Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 283 and claimed the promotion’s vacant light heavyweight title.

Hill’s reign as UFC champion was unfortunately short-lived, as the 32-year-old decided to follow the example of his predecessor Jiří Procházka and vacate the title after he suffered an Achilles injury that would keep him sidelined for an extended period.
The veteran of Dana White’s Contender Series has maintained an active presence online during his recovery period and indicated after UFC 295 that he’s eager to square off with newly-crowned champion Alex Pereira, but according to TMZ the former UFC titleholder was arrested in Michigan this week after he allegedly assaulted James Anthony Hill Jr.
The original report from TMZ noted that it was unclear if the two Hills were related, but an update from “sources with direct knowledge” indicated to TMZ that James Anthony Hill Jr. is in fact the brother of the former UFC champion.
Charged with one count of misdemeanor aggravated domestic violence, Hill was released from police custody on the same day of his arrest and is scheduled to appear in court in January.
There was no concrete timetable on when Hill would be able to return from his injury even prior to this incident, but depending on the outcome of his hearing a return to action will almost certainly be delayed further even before the UFC decides how to address the troubling news.
