Former Opponent Trashes "Stupid" Jon Jones for UFC 300 Main Event Claim

Jon Jones’ recent claim that he was offered a main event slot at UFC 300 generated a stunned reaction from one of his former opponents.

“Bones” last stepped into the Octagon when he won the vacant heavyweight belt at UFC 285, and unfortunately a planned title defense against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 fell apart after the former light heavyweight king suffered a pec injury.
The 36-year-old recently made headlines with a claim that he’d turned down the chance to headline UFC 300 on April 13, and Chael Sonnen was quick to post a reaction video to that statement once he got wind of the news.
“So Jon Jones comes out, and he says ‘Yeah, the UFC, they just offered me a main event for UFC 300,’” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel. “And I would just have absolutely no idea what goes through that guy’s head. There’s a level of stupid that’s really hard to achieve…When would that be okay to claim? When he wasn’t [offered the main event]."
Sonnen rarely hesitates to speak his mind about active fighters, and Jones is often one of the Bellator and UFC veteran’s favorite targets after the pair met for the light heavyweight belt at UFC 159.

He obviously can't be certain whether or not Jones’ claim about UFC 300 was true, but Sonnen did go on to note that “Bones” may have put his employer in a tough position as April 13 draws closer.
“If he made this up – if this is a lie about 300, great job [making a headline]. First time you’ve ever done a great job…But because it would be the first time, because that’s off-brand, I don’t think that’s what happened. I think he got a phone call. So now he comes out and he outs the organization...‘Hey man, these guys don’t have a main event.’
There’s only two months to go until UFC 300, and although the card is already loaded with some huge names and sensational fights UFC CEO Dana White recently admitted that the promotion is struggling to put a headlining bout together.
A heavyweight title fight featuring Jones would be a perfect main event for UFC 300, but the 36-year-old has also come under fire from fans for his commitment to rebooking the Miocic matchup instead of a title unification bout with interim champion Tom Aspinall.
