UFC 298 Results: Mackenzie Dern's Leg Mangled In Devastating Loss

Dern's late success wasn't enough to overcome an impressive striking display from Lemos.

Amanda Lemos put on one of the most impressive performances of her career against an incredibly-game Mackenzie Dern in the featured prelim for UFC 298.

“Amandinha” entered the night as the promotion’s #3-ranked strawweight contender following a lopsided fight against champion Weili Zhang at UFC 292, while Dern was coming off a knockout-loss to former titleholder Jéssica Andrade.

Things took a serious turn in the first round when Lemos severely compromised Dern’s leg, but the American went on to rally from nearly being finished in the second round to land some big shots and find huge moments of grappling success in the latter half of the fight.

The matchup was the clear frontrunner for Fight of the Night as soon as the final bell sounded, and it was Lemos who got her hand raised after all three judges scored things in her favor.

Dern now finds herself on a two-fight skid, but the 30-year-old still entered UFC 298 as the promotion's #7-ranked strawweight contender and her incredible toughness on a huge card headlined by Alexander Volkanovski and Ilia Topuria surely earned her some new fans.
