UFC 300: Dana White Announces 3 Fights for Landmark Card /

UFC CEO Dana White has announced the first three fights of UFC 300. White made the reveal through his social media and didn't point to where the fights were positioned on the card.

The announced fights are as follows:

  • Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage - Middleweight
  • Aljamain Sterling vs. Calvin Kattar - Featherweight
  • Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic - Light Heavyweight

Out of the three fights, two of them include fighters who are one fight detached from being UFC champions.

Aljamain Sterling will debut at featherweight for the first time in the UFC. "Funk Master" has long hinted at a move up to the heavier division, and it seems his KO loss to Sean O'Malley at UFC 292 has finally prompted that decision.

Sterling's opponent, Calvin Kattar, is ranked #7 at featherweight but will be looking to break a two-fight losing streak. A dominant victory over the former bantamweight champion would surely propel Kattar into the title picture.

Jiri Prochazka makes a relatively fast turnaround since his TKO defeat to Alex Pereira at UFC 295 in November. The former light heavyweight champion vacated his title with a shoulder injury earlier in 2023. "BJP" now faces #5 Aleksandar Rakic, who is also returning from a long layoff due to injury.

Light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has a lot to consider, with Prochazka vs. Rakic and Walker vs. Ankalaev producing potential title contenders. "Poatan" should also be anticipating the return of former champion Jamahal Hill, who also vacated the title due to injury.

Bo Nickal's bout against Cody Brundage is rumored to be the first fight of the night, but as Nickal tells it, he'd retire before being on the prelims. The American wrestler faces Cody Brundage, a dangerous all-round fighter who only just snapped a four fight skid.
