Minutes after UFC 298 concluded on pay-per-view, Jamahal Hill and Alex Pereira, like the rest of the MMA community, found out the UFC 300 main event would be against each other.

Absent since last July with an Achilles injury, Hill, the former UFC light heavyweight champion, earns a chance to regain the belt he never lost by doing so on the sport's biggest stage.

Hill and Pereira will face off in eight weeks, which gives the division necessary movement amid Pereira's victory against former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka in November.

Hill quickly reacted on 'X' surrounding his fight, remaining laser-focused on his task.

"Nothing but a shot at gold next," Hill wrote.

Hill has burst onto the scene in a big way since his UFC debut in 2020, including four-straight victories to capture gold and winning six out of his first seven Octagon appearances.

Hill became the first fighter in Dana White Contender Series history to win a championship, proving the show's talent pool can make it to the pinnacle of MMA.

The bout against Pereira is Hill's first Las Vegas-based pay-per-view headliner, having only previously fought at the UFC APEX facility in Sin City.

Should Hill win, he would become the first two-time UFC light heavyweight champion since Jon Jones several years ago, which included brief stints with Daniel Cormier as lineal champion.

Nonetheless, UFC 300 has its main event, and tickets go on sale Wednesday to the general public in anticipation of the blockbuster fight card.

With Pereira vs. Hill finalized, the bout order looks like this.

  • Alex Pereira vs. Jamahal Hill; LHW Title Fight
  • Max Holloway vs. Justin Gaethje; LW BMF Title
  • Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan; SW Title Fight
  • Jiri Prochazka vs. Aleksandar Rakic; LHW
