Controversial Irish fighter Ian Garry has made headlines recently, hitting out at UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland and threatening to move up in weight class to take his title.

Not only did "The Future" remark about beating Strickland in the future, but he also mocked Strickland for being vulnerable about his childhood on Theo Von's January 3 podcast:

"And maybe, maybe I’ll beat him so bad that he’ll forget all of that trauma from his childhood and he can thank me," Garry told The MMA Hour on January 8.

Speaking to reporters at the UFC 297 pre-fight presser on January 17, Strickland left a scathing review of his welterweight rival:

"What a f****** c*** --- what a c***. God, Ian Garry is such a f****** c***," Strickland repeated. "..... God, I hate that f****** guy. .... If Ian Garry was right in front of me I'd f****** fight him... he's a piece of s*** you guys.

".... He's a weak man, he's a f****** weak man. This is what I try to tell people, you meet these f****** c***s all day long and they smile and they shake your f****** hand, but really their core is f****** rotten."

Strickland was sure to acknowledge his own trash-talking tendencies mid-rant:

"You look at me and I say hard s***," Strickland said. "I make fun of my co-main event.... I'm just saying what you're thinking --- Ian Garry is a f****** c*** and he hides who he is."

The disdain is tangible, but both fighters are preoccupied with their own bookings. Strickland must defend his title against his other nemesis Du Plessis in the main event of UFC 297 on January 20, and Garry has been rescheduled to face Geoff Neal at UFC 298 on February 17.
