Carlos Prates has scored an emphatic comeback knockout victory over Trevin Giles at UFC Vegas 86.

Prates, making his UFC debut, lost the first round by a slim margin and was losing the second round handily before the shock knockout. Giles pushed the pace with his boxing, and Prates had to adjust on the fly.

The Brazilian striker took advantage of the open stance position by stepping in with the rear knee, spearing Giles to the midsection several times. This served to condition the American fighter, who didn't expect Prates to feint the knee and follow through with a left hand straight down the pipe, landing square on the jaw and collapsing Giles like a sack of potatoes.

Prates' finish put an end to a slew of slow-paced decisions at UFC Vegas 86. The night began with a barnburner fight between Daniel Marcos and Aoriqileng which unfortunately ended with a foul. Following this were two spectacular knockouts from Hyder Amil and Bogdan Guskov; hopefully the action will continue into the main card.
